Winter weather will be in the metropolitan area before you know it. The City’s snow removal crews have taken several steps to prepare for the winter season.

Today, snow removal crews tested and mounted equipment to trucks in preparation for light snow mixed with rain forecast for our area on Saturday, December 3. 

Another way in which crews are prepared for this year’s winter is a new Automatic Vehicle Locating (AVL) system. Though this technology, managers will monitor snow removal efforts in real time. The AVL device, which is attached to all snow removal vehicles, will detect and record if the snow blade is up or down and if the salt is being dispersed on roads.
