With temperatures rising, the Animal Control Unit of the Lee’s Summit Police Department would like to offer some tips to pet owners for keeping pets cool and safe during the hot weather.
- Never leave an animal in a parked car. Even with the windows cracked or on a cloudy day, the temperature inside the vehicle can jump to 100 degrees in a matter of minutes and be fatal to the animal.
- Make sure that pets have access to shade and plenty of fresh water.
- Limit exercise and activity to cooler parts of the day during the morning and evening hours.
Officers from the Animal Control Unit are on patrol from 8am – 11pm during most days of the week. If you wish to report an animal that may need assistance, you can contact the Animal Control Unit at 969-1640. In addition, Officers from the Animal Control Unit will be checking for animals in distress while on normal patrol.
