If you are in need of some minor exterior home repairs or minor private sanitary sewer improvements, the City of Lee’s Summit’s Minor Home Repair program is worth considering.
For more than 13 years the City has offered this program that encourages neighborhood 
conservation through property maintenance by providing grants to help repair the most visible home defects which may adversely affect the value of the home as well as surrounding properties. To date, more than 180 properties in the City have been improved - through the MHR program granted by the City and funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG).
The City will accept applications for this program from now until August 31, 2011.
Only single-family, owner-occupied residential units will be eligible for this program. Only minor exterior repairs are eligible, include the following:
- windows and doors
- roof
- paint
- porches and steps
- foundation walls
- walls and trim
- flashing and guttering
- private sanitary sewer (lateral repair/backwater valves)
Low-to-moderate income homeowners are eligible based on total household income and must fall within the following HUD guidelines:

The applicant will be required to contribute a share of the fix-up cost. The homeowner’s contribution will not be below $20 or above $500, and will be scaled based on income & cost of repairs.
The maximum grant amount is $10,000 per household for home repairs and $3,000 per household for private sanitary sewer improvements. The City will prioritize applications based on the greatest need in terms of household income and needed repairs. All repairs are subject to federal environmental regulation & lead-based compliance.
Applications are available from the Codes Administration Department located in Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green Street and online from the City’s Website.
